Description

The Woolshire pillow is a Standard or Queen (20" × 30") wool pillow with an organic cotton inner case. Handmade in northern Idaho from virgin wool sourced from ranchers across the western US, cleaned and carded without chemicals at our own mill on vintage American equipment from the 1960s. The carding process stretches the wool fiber into batts. That's what keeps our pillows from clumping like loose-fill wool does.

The cotton inner case is long-staple organic cotton from Texas family farms. It's undyed, with no pesticides or additives. The cover is sewn shut for durability—this is a single-piece construction, not a zippered cover you remove.

Wool is naturally hypoallergenic, mold-resistant, and temperature-regulating. Cool in summer, warm in winter, breathable year-round. Unlike synthetic pillows that off-gas chemicals, our wool-filled pillows use materials you can trace back to the ranch.

A note on settling: because there are no chemicals in our wool, the batting will compress slightly during the first six months of regular use. Sleep on different parts of the pillow, flip it occasionally, and fluff by hand to keep it even. If you prefer high loft, the Extra Full option uses compressed wool to resist settling.

These organic wool pillows are for parents who care what touches their family at night, and for anyone rebuilding a clean-living bedroom one piece at a time.

Sleeper Position Fit

Most people do best on Medium. The sizes only go up from there if you're a side sleeper who needs more height.

Thin: Best for stomach sleepers, and anyone who likes their head close to the mattress.

Medium: Our most popular fill, and the right pick for most sleepers: back and combination sleepers, and side sleepers on soft-to-medium mattresses or with an average or smaller frame. When you're between sizes, start here.

Full: For side sleepers who need extra height: a firm mattress you sleep on top of (rather than sinking into), or broader shoulders.

Extra Full: For broad-shouldered side sleepers on firm mattresses, or anyone who's had a pillow flatten on them. Made with pre-compressed wool, so it holds its loft.

Not sure? See our full guide: How to Choose the Right Pillow. When it's close, we'd rather you start on Medium, and we'll re-adjust the fill for free until it's right.

Care Instructions

Wool pillows almost never need a full wash. A clean pillowcase, the occasional spot clean, and a sunny afternoon every few months handle most of it.

Spot clean with cold water and a wool-safe detergent.

Sun-air the whole pillow every month or two to freshen it.

Hand-fluff daily to maintain loft.

Never machine wash and never tumble dry. Both cause felting.

For a full wash or deep cleaning, follow our complete guide: How to Wash a Wool Pillow.

Sleep As Nature Intended

Natural Virgin Wool

Woolshire pillows were built as nature into them. When you lay on wool you are connecting your sleep to nature. They have no chemical gases, unlike memory foam and polyfill pillows.

Our pillows trace their roots back to how our ancestors slept. In a world of cheap, mass-produced, and synthetically made products, the Woolshire Pillow is a champion of a bygone era, a champion of quality. At The Woolshire we reject the plastic mindset, no chemical baths, no micro-plastic shedding, fashioned and crafted by a family of artisans.

TEMPERATURE CONTROL & MOISTURE RESISTANT

Wool naturally regulates body temperature. During the summer months, it vents heat and in the winter, it will keep you nice and cozy.

Wool pillows are also naturally moisture-wicking, which makes them more resistant to the accumulation of mildew and dust mites. As a result, our wool pillows are naturally hypoallergenic and perfect for humid environments.

Crafted For Comfort

Each one of our wool pillows is 100% handmade. All of the measurements, cuts, and sewing are done by hand at our Idaho base, which allows us to build an incredibly comfortable and durable pillow. We value quality over efficiency.

Woolshire pillows are made with materials sourced from the U.S., which allows us to tightly control over quality. The wool we use comes from the Northwest U.S. and our cotton is sourced from Texas. It all comes to Idaho where we make the pillow you’re sleeping on.

Common Questions

Are Wool Pillows Good For You?

Wool pillow, made the way they should be, are the healthiest pillows you can sleep on. Between being non-toxic and 100% natural there is no better option.

Do Wool Pillows Go Flat?

Wool will compress over the first month or more of using them. However, you can pick from our many fill options and size up if you're worried about your pillow not having enough support.

Can You Wash Wool Pillows?

Yes! We have an in-depth guide under "Wash & Care" on this page. Since wool is a natural material you do have to be careful when washing your pillow so as not to create unnecessary damage to the fibers.

Wooly Wonder

"I bought the full and medium pillows, Packaging was well done and the pillow covers are beautiful. I use the full pillow to sit up in bed and prop up my injured knee when I sleep. I use the medium pillow to sleep. I no longer become hot because of the toxic pillows I previously owned. Great company and top-quality pillows!!"

Best pillow ever

"I have tried many polyester and down pillows over the years. None of them felt quite right. Fluffing them up or punching them down did not do it. The Woolshire pillow really is different. The density of the wool gives an amazing firm but soft feel. (I bought a Medium fill. ) I actually look forward to laying my head on this pillow, because it feels good, especially for my neck, and I sleep much better than before. The cotton cover is beautiful. I am so happy to have found the Woolshire company!"

My husband has commented almost daily about his better sleep since he switched his pillow to Woolshire. Thank you. for this excellent product."

Your Face Will Thank You

"I've followed The Woolshire on X for a while now. I was reluctant to spend this much on a pillow, but their story finally got to me. So glad I did. My wife, and especially my kids, are jealous. My 7-year-old has already stolen it once. Definitely buying more as Christmas presents this year."

Woolshire Pillows

"I bought 3 pillows (for 3 people) as the crowning touch to changing to American-made & -sourced cotton bedding. It's now a decade since I started reducing chemicals & synthetics. This wool pillow is sturdy to support my side sleeping & cradle my head. The ticking is soft & gorgeous, the packaging was very thoughtful (I'll reuse!), & Chase was prompt & thorough in answering all my emailed questions. I hesitated to invest, but I'm so glad I did!"

Karen S. (5/5)

Best pillow ever

"I love my new pillow. The thickness, the soft yet firm feel. It feels so good to sleep on. I feel like I can tell the difference sleeping on natural materials. I can’t believe I didn’t do this sooner since I’ve been into natural fiber clothing for a long time now. And I’ve had mostly organic cotton sheets so why didn’t I consider the pillow my head rests on? I hope to get my husband and son pillows from here soon."

Sleep well. Make a better world!

"These pillows, and the small company building them are fantastic! Buy them. You will love it! And you will be supporting a healthier, saner world. I've had wool pillows for years. These are exceptional. And the plastic free packaging they were sent with was impeccable! I believe when you support good business, making saner choices, you will be creating a better world by your choice. When you get your pillow you will be smiling in your sleep!, for how happy you will feel. Thanks Woolshire, for your example!"

I have been waking up

"I have been waking up with a headache almost every morning. I decided to try the Woolshire pillow and I am very happy with it and not one headache upon waking. I ordered another one for my husband. I hope to replace all my pillows with these. I love that there are still people making an excellent product with natural materials. May God bless you on this journey."

Perfect Pillow!

"I purchased this pillow for my sister as a birthday gift. Her feedback is absolutely glowing! She loves everything about it from the origin of the wool and cotton to the company values. She has noted her sleep has improved and is more restful. Please make more items…bedding and clothing would be amazing! P. S. If you really name your sheep after customers, give one the name of Abigail-Abby for short😜"
